Always Bring Flowers
Monday evening I sat on my front steps, drinking a glass of wine and waiting for the Pilot to pick me up for dinner with his mom as Daisy scouted the perimeter of the yard, searching for a squirrel or bird or some other lawn critter to chase.
Work had been okay and we finally received a little more information on the mandated office move that will send everyone to an office two hours away. We didn’t receive very much information, and this move is still a bit in the future, but nonetheless it’s hanging out there and so it’s on every employee’s mind.
Earlier in the day I had sent a message to the Pilot informing him of this information and when he arrived at my house he handed me a lemon. I looked at him with raised eyebrows, “What’s this for?”
“Well it sounds like you had a sucky day,” he began, smiling as he spoke, “and when life hands you lemons…”
I laughed, “You make vodka-spiked lemonade?”
He smiled in response as I placed the lemon in the fruit basket that hangs in my kitchen, then gave Daisy a treat as we walked out the door.
“Flowers?” he asked, spying the spring bouquet I had in my hand.
“They’re for your mom,” I explained. “She’s making dinner, the least I can do is say ‘thank you’ with flowers.”
“I didn’t give you flowers when you cooked me dinner. Was I supposed to?”
I laughed, “I guess I’m brilliant then, aren’t I?”
We arrived at his place and walked inside. Introductions were made and I handed over the flowers. His mom thanked me repeatedly, stated how pretty they were and how much she liked them. Each time she said this I would look at my boyfriend and smirk a little. After all, women are suckers for flowers, myself included.
Dinner went off without a hitch with the conversation flowing freely. A few hours later I was home, but not before lunch plans were made for the next day. Yep, I was taking his mom to lunch. By myself. He had to work and so I offered lunch since I had a day with surprisingly few meetings.
The next day we went to lunch and had a great time, the conversation once again flowing and we didn’t even talk solely about the Pilot, instead we talked about our jobs and traveling, the things we’d seen and done and a slew of other topics.
All in all, I think it went pretty well.

Wowsers! That’s awesome sweetie! I mean, I *expected* the dinner to go well, but lunch too?! Aren’t you just racking up the great girlfriend points?!
Awesome! Sounds like this could really work out well. Woohoooooo!!!
So happy for you!
Yay for happy meetings with the parents! There is nothing better than having a boyfriend’s mom that likes you. It makes life so much easier.
P.S: Have you seen the show Hitched or Ditched? (Trash TV I know). Anyway, the guy’s mom this week was crazy and HATED his fiancee. She said she was going to have to be committed to a mental institution if they went through with the wedding. Needless to say the guy was such a mama’s boy he didn’t go through with the wedding. I felt so bad for the poor girl!
