The Life, Shenanigans and Exploits of Courtney Birst

There Were Mimosas!

Every year I host a Thanksgiving Brunch, held the Sunday before Thanksgiving. It is my favorite party to host, and the one I look forward to in the weeks leading up to it. This year, my 4th year having it, was perhaps the best.

To host a successful Thanksgiving Brunch, alcohol must be served. This should come as no surprise to my readers because you’re aware my friends are lushes. And by that I mean I’m a lush. Because it’s brunch and therefore a “civilized” event, alcohol came in the form of mimosas – that yummy combination of champagne and orange juice:

Another key element of a good brunch is having a plethora of food. I made my favorite quiche recipe, and everyone brought something to share.

Of course, for my best friend Virginia, my brunch wouldn’t be complete without her infamous contribution – turkey butter! No, dear friends, that’s not turkey-flavored butter, but rather butter in the shape of a turkey.

Of course the butter isn’t her only contribution. She also brings the turkey hat:

In our shared opinion, nothing says “Happy Thanksgiving!!” quite like posing for pictures with your head up a turkey’s ass.

Of course what good is a party if you don’t have a great group of friends to join you in the festivities? I think the total headcount was 17, making this a very successful brunch!

Even #9 showed up (nope, he’s not pictured, so don’t analyze the photos, trying to figure out which guy he is!), though he was a little late. But to make up for his tardiness, he brought me beautiful lilies, which are now filling my home with their sweet fragrance.

By the end of the party, we had eaten most of the food, drank four bottles of champagne, laughed, talked, and enjoyed the day. Of course after a party, there is always some carnage:

But the mess was well worth it, for this was a great brunch shared with friends.
