The Life and Shenanigans of Courtney Birst

A Wicked Weekend

Friday night I took it easy - went shopping for the weekend’s supplies (beer, food) and then went to yoga. I was home and in bed by 10:30pm, an unusually early time for me as of late, but after being sick all week, it was what I needed.

Saturday morning I awoke to a lovely day and I ventured out for a 21-mile run. This is my last long training run before the Richmond Marathon and I had hoped to test my pace, to see how my body feels at my expected race pace. Except I’ve been sick all week and wasn’t able to run. And so Saturday’s run wasn’t the best. In fact, it felt quite terrible as I couldn’t settle into my pace and I was still a little stuffy. Nonetheless, I completed it and headed home.

Arriving home I ate, showered and changed; and Virginia and I headed to a rugby game. Neither she or I have ever been to a rugby game so it was a lot of fun to watch. It’s a very aggressive sport and we had a grand time at the game. It didn’t hurt that they had free drinks and food, and so we had a few libations as we cheered for the Washington Irish. Here we are, enjoying the unusually warm November day:

After the game ended we headed home, but unfortunately Virginia had drank a little too much and so she wasn’t feeling up to that evening’s party. She felt terrible about it, but I reminded her that I once got hammered on a date and he spent the whole night holding back my hair while I puked. Really, that’s about as low as it gets, so her having a few too many and not feeling like hanging around for the party was no problem what so ever.

Oh and did I mention I landed a date with a rugby player? Oh, yes, it looks like I’ve found my Bachelor #8, as we’ll be having dinner together Tuesday night. Of course I’m still heartbroken, but the truth of the matter is I need something - or rather someone - to distract me from my heartache. And who better than a rugby player?

Back at home my friends Jen and Denise showed up, goodies and costume in hand. And because Jen is occasionally bitten by the Betty-Crocker-meets-Martha-Stewart bug, she arrived carrying these lovely little treats, which are actually made of cake and frosting an dipped in candy coating - yummy!

Now let me tell you about these lovely ladies, Jen and Denise. We all lived in the same community, each of us owning townhouses just steps from one another. Saturday was the first time in over a year the three of us have been together, and it had been far too long. We spent the entire evening wrapped in conversations with one another and the other guests who showed up at my house. Giggling and laughing and drinking our fair share of beer. And of course posing for pictures. :)

Later in the evening my party would wind down and we headed to another party, which was conveniently just down the road from my house. After having a couple of beers we were ready to call it a night and so us three ladies, #6 and another male friend piled into my car and headed back to my place to crash for the night.

Oh, did I forget to mention #6 was at my party? And that we snuck away for a bit? Hmmm…funny how that detail slipped my mind… Anywho, we all returned to my house and crashed, for it was late and it had been a long day.

The next morning while #6 and I were curled up together, the other three house guests began gathering the beer cans that littered every surface.

Yes, you read that correctly - my friends cleaned up my house while I lay in my warm bed with a warm body. This is why I love my friends.

Once awake, we were treated to French Toast Casserole, as Jen is amazing and had brought this with her for our post-party breakfast. After eating our full, the boys cleaned up the kitchen and then headed out to begin their days, leaving us girls alone for some much needed gossip time. (And yes, before I get lectured via the comments my readers are bound to leave, I know I said I was done with #6. And I am. I just wasn’t that night. A girl can have her moments of weakness!)

And so we three women sat curled up in my living room, gossiping and catching up and laughing and talking for several hours. Taking breaks for the essentials: food and water and pee breaks and the occasional nap.

And that concluded my wicked fun weekend!
