The Life and Shenanigans of Courtney Birst

A Lackluster Date

Last night Bachelor #7 and I went out to dinner. We went to Mai Thai in old town, one of my favorite restuarants (side note: I’m excited that I’ve lived here long enough to have some new favorite restaurants. Yes, I know this makes me a huge dork. I don’t care.). But while the food was great, the date itself was lacking.

Now admittedly, I was tired. Thursday night I ran a 7.5 mile Ball Buster trail while hashing and then closed not one, but two bars (I didn’t drink much though, despite how that reads!). After a short cab ride home I was in bed sometime after 2am. Friday I rolled into the office around 9am and then worked a full day. So by our 7pm date, I was tired.

He too was tired, having traveled for work this week, arriving in town around 4pm on Friday. So we were both tired, a bit drained, a bit quiet.

But I worry it’s more than that. Because while we have a lot in common, and he’s a good guy who happens to be a cute athlete (I’m a sucker!), we lack that ZING! That ZIP! That SIZZLE! And while I know there is far more to a relationship than that instant, intense connection you can have with a person, I also believe you need that as part of the relationship. And I’m afraid we don’t have it. Add all of this to the fact that we won’t see one another for two weeks as he’s going out of town for work again. So the SIZZLE! is missing and it doesn’t seem we’ll have a chance to try to capture or create it for at least two weeks. And by then it may be too late.

  1. Sometimes that sizzle takes awhile to develop. I think with my ex it might have taken 3 months but then it was so strong. Just give it a little more time.

Sizzle, then separation, then sizzle again is like cooking up some veggies and then setting them aside till they get cold and then cooking them up again… turns mushy and bland…

On the other hand, distance makes the heart…
