An Amazing Weekend, Part I: Oktoberfest!

It’s not often one has a weekend which can be called amazing. When one has a weekend where everything was fantastic and great. A weekend that included friends, flirting, drinking, dancing, running, eating, laughter and happiness. And yet, I just did.

Saturday morning started with a brisk 7.5-minute pace 8-mile run. My lovely friend Jen was coming to visit so I had to hit the pavement early. I haven’t seen Jen since I moved and as we used to be neighbors I miss her dearly. I miss our impromptu dinners and late evening walks.

She arrived and gave both Daisy and I some love. Mine came in the form of a hearty hug. Daisy’s came in the form of a delicious dog biscuit:

After Daisy gobbled up her treat, Jen and I headed out to pick up my race packet for Sunday’s race. At the store, I flirted with a cute Irishman and subsequently walked away with a much-needed pair of new running shoes. I’ll be going back to the store sometime this week to pick up the shirt I ordered and hopefully his phone number too! ;)

Once I’d gotten my race packet we headed to the Oktoberfest! While I usually don’t drink the day before a race, it was an easy 5-mile race and heck, it’s not every day Jen comes to visit. Clearly this needed to be celebrated with cold beer.

While there we met up with many friends, some of whom took it upon themselves to dress appropriately for the occassion.

The evening wore on, and plenty of beer and a few fried potato pancakes were consumed.

As night fell, the kegs ran dry and the crowd began to thin. We thought we’d stay for one more beer when the band caught our attention:

The band, Kelly Bell Band, was fantastic. A great blues band that interacted well with the crowd. They had us dancing and singing and laughing. At one point Jen even pulled up a chair and I proceeded to dance on it. I’ll let you use your imaginations on that one, but let’s just say I got the attention of the band and many spectators. *ahem* Even Jen couldn’t contain her excitement for me:

Shortly thereafter we decided we’d had enough for the night.  We headed back to my place, Kristen and Jesse in tow for a late dinner. On the menu: Portobella Lasagna with Basil Cream, garlic bread, followed by Individual Mixed-Berry Pies. It was the first time I’d tried the lasagna recipe and it was a success! (Never fear, I’ll be posting the recipe soon!)

While I finished cooking, Jen began constructing a poem on my fridge with the help of Jesse:

Soon Kristen was in on the fun:

They laughed and snickered as they came up with a poem to capture that evening’s festivities, inspired by my dance:

The evening ended with Jen making a lovely sign for my race the next day, but I’ll save that for my next post, I’m a bit exhausted from the weekend’s festivities and I need to chill on the couch for a while!
