Placing Blame

I’m willing to take most of the blame for my less than stellar date the other night. After all, it was me who drank too much. It was me who threw up. It was me who (*gasp!*) admitted to liking the guy I was out with. Such a silly girl doing that, what was I thinking? But it’s not all my fault. Nope, not entirely.

You see, this week we’ve had a full moon. And we all know that things get a little crazy when there’s a full moon. So this must have contributed to the evening and is partly to blame.

Also, I blame John Cusack. Why you ask? Because of this:

You see, ever since that movie came out Lloyd Dobler has been ruining it for guys everywhere. Because all a woman wants is a guy who is so utterly devoted that he stands outside her house, blaring “In Your Eyes” by Peter Gabriel from his boombox. Because of this infamous scene, my expectations of the men I date are incredibly high. And it’s John’s fault. So he gets to share the blame.

  1. I like your rationale. Very, very much.

  2. TattooedWonder

Maybe you should tight roll your jeans like Lloyd has done and your dates will go better!

  3. Yeah, but if a guy actually does that (or any other similar profession of desire), there is about a 99% chance of being labeled a total weirdo and losing all chance with the lady.

Girls say they want confidence and that sort of stuff. But how often do you see a girl shrug a guy off a weirdo for approaching her out of nowhere? How often do you hear a girl complain about a guy that just won’t leave her alone (a la Lloyd)?

  4. Way to go, Lloyd.

My new guy better do something equivalent to this soon or I’m going to kick him to the curb. Hells yeah. :)

But Wendel is right. If D showed up and started blaring music at my window, I might freak out…or call him NUTS.

  5. MMM…Lloyd Dobler. SWOON. He is the dreamiest guy ever. Chuck Klosterman writes a funny essay on how John Cusack single handedly ruined dating for him, due to that movie.

  6. I ALSO blame John Cusack! He has ALSO ruined dating for me!
What is so hard about being so devoted that you stand outside of the girls house with a boombox overhead? Guys just don’t get it:)
