Happy New Year!
Happy New Year! It’s 2008! A fresh start, a new beginning.
Last night my sister and I rang in the New Year by partying hard in DC. It was a black-tie optional event that stressed funky and creative outfits and there were definitely some that pushed the limits on this. Kirsten and I looked fantastic of course:
Admittedly, our night began a little rough when we walked out the door of the hotel and Kirsten realized that even though her newly purchased heels were in fact her usual shoe size, they were strangely too big for her and kept slipping off. So she kicked them off and we walked 5 blocks to the Convention Center where the party was being hosted.
Arriving we headed straight for the bar and stood in line for about 20 minutes. Always the smart girls we requested two drinks each so we wouldn’t have to return immediately. After getting our drinks we grabbed some food and it was then that I noticed a man wearing sunglasses. I joked that he didn’t want to be recognized. Then I noticed his Super Bowl ring. Not sure who he was, and he walked away before I could scope out the ring more closely - almost a celebrity encounter. Here I am kicking off the night with a drink:
The night was great fun. We danced our asses off, and Kirsten got a little tipsy! We saw the Pat McGee Band perform as well as Naughty by Nature (can anyone name one of their songs, other than O.P.P.?… We couldn’t either!)
Kirsten wasn’t the only lady to kick off her shoes. Here, several pair lay on the floor while the women danced:
And a group of people found it very important to start a stockpile and then dance around it. Guess they didn’t want to wait in line at the bar:
There were a lot of great people there, all wanting nothing more than to have a good time, dance a little bit, toast, and share kisses and wishes of a Happy New Year. I even managed to dance with the pimp of the party and he was kind enough to pose for a picture with me:
Around 2am the party was winding down, and we were ready to call it a night. While Kirsten had kicked off her shoes at the beginning of the evening, I kept mine on. And while they are fantastically comfortable for 4″ heels (not to mention fantastically sexy!), my feet were killing me after nearly 5 hours of non-stop dancing. Leaving the convention center I too removed my shoes and walked barefoot back to the hotel.
While I know I promised I’d post my resolutions, I’m going to save that for a later post. They’ll be shared, but not today. Today I am tired and don’t have the energy to write about my resolutions, as that will be a more intense post. Today I want to retire to my couch and watch a mindless movie with my sister.
Happy New Year everyone! It’s 2008 baby!

[...] I sighed. Andrew. Turned out he was engaged to a woman living halfway around the world while he was sleeping with me, settling into a comfortable Sunday afternoon routine of football at his place. He was my rebound after my marriage ended, so I wasn’t exactly in what I would call a good place emotionally or mentally, and I didn’t necessarily want a relationship with him. I also knew he was seeing someone, I just didn’t know the extent of his relationship with her… Perhaps I didn’t want to know. We women are great at hearing what we want to hear, believing what we want to believe. And we did have a blast on New Year’s: [...]
